This type of piece is called a “hramota” and is presented to the bride by the groom’s fraternal group. The text invites her under their wings.
note from the artist: I grew up looking at my mom’s hramota, and it was a major inspiration for me as a child. The first time I was asked to make one in 2022 was the first time anyone in the community had made one since my mom’s. The artist who used to make them was asked to do it but was no longer able to. It was an honor to pick it back up and an honor each time to put so much energy into a piece that represents something so momentous for a new couple.
